THE REGION

PRIME LOCATION FOR THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY

Centrally located to markets across the United States, the Gulf Coast and surrounding region offers access to global markets via numerous deep water ports. The region is already home to some of the world’s most advanced aerospace installations, a number of key NASA facilities and numerous military installations critical to the Department of Defense flight missions and training. Helicopters, naval ships, rockets, spacecraft, manned and unmanned aircraft and many other aerospace systems are currently all manufactured and assembled in the South.

AN AREA IN NEED

The Gulf Coast continues to suffer from the after-effects of Hurricane Katrina … and the recession has hit the area particularly hard. Unemployment rates are high throughout the entire Southeast, and both Alabama and Florida have unemployment over 10%.

Yet, there is an extremely competent technical workforce ready and able to work in the aerospace industry. The Alliance is striving to put these dedicated, experienced workers back on the job doing what they do best … building assets for the U.S. aerospace and defense markets.
